HOW DOES ONLINE COUNSELLING WORK?
You and I will communicate first via email. From there you will make an appointment with me and we can then begin our face to face online session. If you need to speak with me first to see if online counselling is what you are looking for we can arrange a 15 minute free meeting. It is simple and easy.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU TO RESPOND TO ME?
I will respond to your first exchange within two business days. After our first exchange, we can determine how frequent your appointments need to be based on your needs.
WHAT KIND OF CONCERNS CAN I COME TO YOU WITH?
For a full description of my professional background and training please click on about Debbie Allen. With over 15 years of experience I have worked with men and woman who are dealing with a wide range of concerns such as:
- Weight issues
- Eating disorders
- Grief and loss
- Stress management
- Conflict resolution
- Self esteem issues
- Family members and partners of addicts
I can also help with other issues that are not listed above. If I think that your concerns are beyond my experience, or require specialized help, I will let you know.
Online counselling is very effective but it is not for everyone. If you are feeling suicidal or are in a situation involving domestic violence or are in a crisis situation, then online counselling is not for you. You would benefit from more immediate intervention with a counselor that is local to you and available in the community where you live or work. If you are in an emergency situation, it’s important to understand that A Safe Place to Share is not appropriate for you. My responses are not immediate and I am not able to respond to you immediately if you are in a crisis
CAN I HAVE SESSIONS BY TELEPHONE AS WELL AS ONLINE?
I can provide counselling via the internet or by telephone. If you have questions or concerns regarding online counselling, I will call you and we can decide which counselling approach would best suit you.
WHAT IF I DEVELOP A CRISIS WHILE WORKING WITH YOU?
If you happen to undergo a crisis while in counselling with me and it is not life threatening to you or someone else, you can send me an email marked *urgent* in the subject line. I check my messages frequently each day, (not on weekends or during major holidays) and will try to respond as quickly as I can. However, any serious life threatening emergencies such as suicidal thinking should be addressed immediately by calling a local crisis line or calling 911.
WHAT IF I HAVE A SIMPLE QUESTION I WISH TO ASK BEFORE WE GET STARTED?
You can send me an email requesting a 15 min free conversation on the phone or email me your questions. The greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of health. You are on your way to changing the direction of your life. Your personal growth and wellbeing takes priority. Contact me now, you’re worth it. If you would like to make an appointment with me or speak with me please contact me directly by phone or email.
